Transparens i myndigheter
Builders or caregivers
It’s time to build – Marc Andreessen
Our nation and our civilization were built on production, on building. Our forefathers and foremothers built roads and trains, farms and factories, then the computer, the microchip, the smartphone, and uncounted thousands of other things that we now take for granted, that are all around us, that define our lives and provide for our well-being. There is only one way to honor their legacy and to create the future we want for our own children and grandchildren, and that’s to build. Läs mer
Why I Am Not a Maker
”I want to see us recognize the work of the educators, those that analyze and characterize and critique, everyone who fixes things, all the other people who do valuable work with and for others—above all, the caregivers—whose work isn’t about something you can put in a box and sell.” Läs mer
It’s Time To Learn
”I don’t think Anderssen has watched season 4 of the Wire. If he had, he’d understand how school quality is inextricably linked to city and state politics. It’s a really hard and long term problem that is rarely solved by budgets and technology alone.” Läs mer
Why we can’t build
So let me end with my answer to Andreessen’s question: What should we build? We should build institutions biased toward action and ambition, rather than inaction and incrementalism. Läs mer
How Tech Can Build
“Action” is a different word than “build”, but, at least from my perspective, they express the same sentiment: bend the world to our will, instead of simply accepting our fate. In that light Andreessen’s article was meaningful not for the examples of what might be built, but rather for arguing for the action of building as an end goal in and of itself.” Läs mer
Oil, radio and climate
Oil crumbles, Mary Heglar shines
”But there is nothing self-interested about wanting to survive. That’s not selfish. But the climate community kind of falls for that shit a lot. And there’s just nothing self-interested about it. There’s nothing insensitive about it. They’re bullying you, and you should be able to see that.” Läs mer

Yeah, the Weather Has Been Weird – Katharine Hayhoe
”I started with water, how we never have enough unless we have too much. I talked about how temperatures are increasing throughout the state, and how rainfall is becoming more erratic in many regions. I showed predictions of drier and hotter summers as the world warms by one, two, or even three degrees. Then I focused on what we can do: Make smart water choices, plan ahead, and prepare for a water-scarce future. During my presentation, I avoided the words “climate” and “change” in sequence, even though that’s what the talk was about.” Läs mer
